White Sox aim for back-to-back wins over Royals

Baseball Betting Lines

05/16/2010 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Chicago White Sox try to post back-to-back wins for the first time in the month of May as they battle the Kansas City Royals in the finale of a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium.

On Saturday the Sox battled back from a 3-0 deficit in the first inning by putting up four runs in the top of the seventh, en route to the narrow 5-4 triumph over Kansas City. Ramon Castro, who was playing in just his third game of the season, posted his first hit of the campaign and had a pair of RBI for Chicago while Alexei Ramirez tallied three hits and a run scored in the victory as well. Despite the win, the White Sox are still seven games out of first in the American League Central and have a record of 6-10 within the division.

Jake Peavy was credited with the win as he allowed the four runs on seven hits and a walk, while striking out five over the course of 8 1/3 innings. Matt Thornton retired the only two batters he faced in the ninth to earn his first save of 2010.

Luke Hochevar appeared to be cruising along for the Royals, but that was before giving up four runs late in the contest. The KC starter was touched for seven hits and a pair of walks, while striking out three in his 6 1/3 innings of work.

"We had that ballgame won. That's on me," Hochevar said. "I pissed that game away. I need to get it done in that inning and get out of that."

Offensively the Royals were paced by Alberto Callaspo, who knocked in three, while Billy Butler connected on his fourth home run of the season and scored twice himself as the squad had a two-game win streak halted.

In an effort to snap a personal two-game slide, Brian Bannister makes his way to the hill for the Royals for this afternoon's meeting. The right-hander, now in his fourth major league season, has just one win thus far in 2010 thanks to a meeting with Minnesota back in late April.

Most recently Bannister took on Cleveland on Tuesday and was touched for four runs on six hits and three walks over the course of six innings, KC eventually suffering the 8-2 home loss. Six days prior to that Bannister lasted only three innings against these same White Sox, permitting a season-high seven runs on seven hits and four walks in a 9-2 loss on the road.

Bannister has faced off against the Sox more than any other opponent in the majors, his 13 appearances leading to a 3-5 record and a lefty 8.22 ERA. Over the years Chicago hitters have belted 15 home runs in those contests and have a batting average of .305 to go along with a .565 slugging percentage.

Getting the call for the Sox this time around is Gavin Floyd, who is suffering with a 1-3 record and an ugly 6.92 ERA so far this season. The 27-year old right-hander has watched opposing hitters bat .309 against him over the course of seven games, a considerable jump from the .262 average he has allowed over his six years in the majors.

Floyd was on the mound last weekend in the 9-7 loss to Toronto, permitting five runs on five hits, while striking out seven over 6 1/3 innings. Five days earlier the hurler gave up a season-high 13 hits, leading to six runs in the setback to the Royals at home.

Since breaking into the majors Floyd has clashed with the Royals a total of nine times and has a record of just 1-6 to show for his efforts.

Chicago won two of three games at home versus the Royals earlier this month and has taken 11 of the last 18 matchups between the clubs overall.

NFL betting action is back! At MySportsbook, all of the pro football odds are posted for the NFC North. Check out how we see the four teams in this cloudy division stacking up this year in the chase for the playoffs! Green Bay Packers (+125) - With QB Aaron Rodgers leading the offense and DC Dom Capers working his magic on defense, the Packers are a real force to be reckoned with.

Virtually nothing changed on this offense for Green Bay from last year to this year, save for the addition of rookie OT Brian Bulaga to the bunch. Expect more huge numbers from the Pack, and a relatively favorable schedule should get them over the hump and into the playoffs once again this season. My NFL Betting Predictions: 11-5, 1st place in NFC North Minnesota Vikings (+130) - There are still too many unknowns about the Vikes this year. There is a huge difference between QB Brett Favre and either Tarvaris Jackson or Sage Rosenfels under center. Plus, is Favre comes back, is he really going to be able to keep his pick total under double digits again? Depth at running back looked like it might have been an issue with RB Chester Taylor fleeing in free agency, but drafting RB Toby Gerhart should pick up the difference. This defense is still suitable, but with a first place schedule, making the playoffs is going to be very tough regardless of whether #4 comes back or not.

Chicago Bears (+350) - The Bears are probably a bit of an overhyped team once again this year. No, we don't think it is plausible for QB Jay Cutler to have as bad of a season as he did last year, and we do think the additions of RB Chester Taylor and DE Julius Peppers are going to help immensely, but there's still something in the water in the Windy City that we aren't so sure about. Maybe Chicago finds its way to .500... but then again, maybe it doesn't. If Favre comes back, Cutler might be the worst quarterback in this division this year.

Detroit Lions (+1500) - The Lions are probably once again going to be the whipping boys for the rest of the teams in the NFC North, but they aren't just going to roll over and die once again. There is some real talent amassing on this team offensively, as the combination of QB Matt Stafford, RB Jahvid Best, WR Calvin Johnson, and TE Brandon Pettigrew should put a bunch of points on the board if the offensive line can even remotely hold up. The questions really lie on defense, where it feels like DT Ndamukong Suh is going to be trying to stop opposing teams all by himself. This year should show some marked improvement in the Motor City.

The Patriots will make NFL betting fans a lot of money this season, get in early and enjoy the cash.
