Report: ChiSox to get a pair of minor leaguers for Guillen

Baseball Betting Lines

09/27/2011 - Chicago, IL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Chicago White Sox will reportedly receive a pair of minor league players as compensation from the Florida Marlins when the widespread rumors become official and Ozzie Guillen is named their new manager.

Guillen was released from his contract with the White Sox after Monday's game and will not manage the club for the final two games of the season. It has been widely speculated that Guillen already has agreed to become the new manager of the Marlins, who next year will move into a new stadium and will drop the Florida name for Miami.

Marlins interim manager Jack McKeon announced his retirement on Monday, effective at the conclusion of the season. McKeon took over in June when Edwin Rodriguez abruptly resigned.

Because the White Sox still have compensation rights for Guillen, the Chicago Tribune has reported that the Marlins will send a pair of players to complete the transaction. MLB.com has reported that one of the minor leaguers will be infielder Osvaldo Martinez, while the Tribune indicated that the other player isn't expected to come from Florida's current 40-man roster

The 23-year-old Martinez has appeared in 20 games for the Marlins this season and is hitting .130 with three hits in 23 at-bats. He also played 14 games for the Marlins in 2010 and hit .326.

Guillen managed the White Sox to a record of 678-617 during his eight-year tenure and guided the Southsiders to their first World Series crown in 88 years with a title in 2005.

The White Sox were considered contenders entering this season, but head into Tuesday's action just 78-82 and in third place in the American League Central.
